Euclid School Library Mission Statement and Vision Statement

Mission Statement: To provide students, staff, and the community with a dynamic, relevant, and up-to-date collection; and a safe, inviting, and welcoming space in order to ensure student success and to nurture a love of discovery, reading, and learning.

Vision Statement: The Euclid Library will aspire to find new and innovative ways to support the mission of the school and to empower students through building its collection; providing equity of access to books and unique library programming; and offering an overall space conducive to learning, creativity, and kindness.

School Library Program and Procedures

Euclid Elementary School Library is open to classroom, student, small group, and family visits throughout the day.

Classes visit the the School Library once every two weeks to learn about the library; to learn how to find books; to check out books, to be read to, and to learn about the wonders and joys of reading. Classroom library visits at the start of the year are given an orientation that go over the library rules, procedures, and policies.

The school library is open for individual student visits during recess and lunch time for reading, browsing, games and drawing. The school library is a safe and welcoming space for students, families, and staff. All are welcome!

Students and staff are able to borrow books from the school library. Students are taught about being responsible and caring for library books. Students must sign and return a school library permission slip before they are able to check out books.

Euclid's School Library's collection of books is accessible online through Destiny, our online catalog. Students can search for books, place holds, and view current check outs.

To search our collection using Destiny, please click the button below and select Catalog!

AUTHOR VISIT! PSEUDONYMOUS BOSCH AND SHANE PANGURN VISIT EUCLID!

New York Time's best selling children's book author Pseudonymous Bosch and illustrator Shane Pangburn visited Euclid and demonstrated how he writes his books through a fun and interactive activity. The author visit took place in our newly remodeled auditorium!

Students in grades 3-5th were provided with a free copy of one if his latest books, The Unbelievable Oliver and the Four Jokers. This amazing opportunity was brought to us by Access Books, a California-based non-profit that provided quality books to public schools and community libraries.

Thank you to Access Books and to Pseudonymous Bosch and Shane Pangburn for visiting our community :^)

LAPL VISITS EUCLID AVENUE ELEMENTARY

Librarians from the Los Angeles Public Library (LAPL) visited Euclid yesterday, December 1, 2022, for storytime, crafts, games, and free book giveaways for classes TK-2nd. Children's Librarian Jessica from the Malabar Library Branch taught students about the public library and read some awesome stories followed by Christmas themed art crafts taught by Outreach librarians. BOOK DELIVERY!

57 boxes of shiny new and awesome books!

Euclid Elementary School Library received a giant shipment of brand new library books this November thanks to funding provided to refresh school library collections. The majority of titles delivered were non-fiction books. If you have not signed and turned in a library permission slip to check-out books, now is the time!  A second and third order consisting of fiction and picture books are currently on their way! :^)

NEW SPANISH SECTION

Spanish books now have their very own section in the school library, making it easier for students and staff to locate them. Yay! Spanish books were previously shelved alongside English books. Come and check them out sometime!

MR. RAMIREZ, SCHOOL LIBRARIAN

Dear Euclid Family,

My name is Joel Ramirez and I have the great privilege of being your school librarian. A little about me: I have been working as an elementary school librarian for LAUSD for the last 5 years; have experience working at public libraries;  I am from Boyle Heights; and I have an education in Library and Information Science.

As your school librarian, my goal is to provide students and staff access to books, information, a safe welcoming space, and to inspire student to develop a lifelong love of reading/learning.

Reading is essential for academic success and lifelong learning. Reading must be nurtured by parents from a young age. Please take time to read with your child. Create a library of books at home. Find out what they are interested in and look for books about that topic.

The school library's doors are always open. Please feel free to stop by after school to browse for books together with your child. We have a wonderful school library with an amazing and ever growing selection of books.

If you have any questions, or would like to volunteer to help at the school library, please contact me at: [email protected]

Thank you for reading! Read on!

Children's Book Week 2023!

May 1-7th

Established in 1919, Children’s Book Week is the longest-running national literacy initiative in the country. Every year, young people across the country participate by attending events at schools, libraries, bookstores, celebrating at home, and engaging with book creators both online and in person. |

This year’s theme is Read Books, Spark Change and speaks to the power that books and stories have in inspiring positive change.

Celebrate Children's Book Week by completing the Find your Spark Challenge or any of these activities down below with your Little Panther :^)

Students who complete these activities can earn special prizes from the library!
